Why Volunteer?

Thank you for your interest in working with Healing Hands for Haiti. In this section you will find the information you need to determine if you are suited and qualified to work as a HHH field volunteer. Please read all of the information carefully. If you would like to apply to HHH, please follow the instructions at the end of this section.

Healing Hands for Haiti International is a non-profit institution dedicated to developing physical medicine and rehabilitation programs and services in Haiti. We focus on providing skilled rehabilitation professional expertise in order to develop and support the provision of rehab services by Haitians.

Healing Hands recruits medical and non-medical volunteers to work on our projects. All of these people bring professional abilities, practical experience, as well as a commitment to and concern for the people they help.

Our programs rely on the services of skilled rehabilitation nurses, technicians, therapists, and physicians to participate in the care of patients (SCI, polytrauma, stroke, and CP), through the teaching and training of Haitian nationals in rehab medicine skills areas, planning with Haitian government and international NGOs for long term rehabilitation needs, including facilities, national rehab plan, training, and care provision.

Who we Need

We are seeking volunteer support to help us accomplish our goal of transferring the technical and medical knowledge and services needed to enable Haitians to help themselves manage and run programs in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

We welcome applications from committed health care professionals, including:

• PM&R & other physicians with experience in complex rehabilitation care, teaching and training
• Rehab Nurses
• Physical Therapists
• Occupational Therapists
• Speech Language Pathologists
• Certified Orthotists, Prosthetists & Technicians

We have opportunities for non-rehab medical and non-medical volunteers. These volunteers can fulfill a wide variety of duties with our organization, both at home and in Haiti. At present the opportunities in Haiti for non-rehab trained volunteers are very few. When opportunities do exist they can be in any number of areas including assisting in our Care Giver and Orphanage service and training programs, logistics, training for trades for re-entry to work, and other support roles.

Become A Volunteer

When qualified, you are invited to join one of our medical groups to help train Haitian health care workers and treat patients with disabilities in our clinic in Port-au-Prince, at partner sites, and in orphanages and schools throughout the country. Healing Hands has hosted volunteers from all over North America and Europe who travel to Haiti for between one week and six months or more. We have experienced staff at home and in Haiti that manage your assignments and are dedicated to matching your skills with the needs in country to provide first class service and training in PM&R.

We request you be able to dedicate at least two weeks to your mission, but we do have limited opportunities for one week volunteers.

Our in country staff manage your logistical needs and security. Volunteers finance their own expenses, which are very often assisted by joint fundraising projects. Fees will cover all costs except personal expenses, including in-country travel, accommodation, meals, security, and hospitality. While at Healing Hands for Haiti headquarters and clinic in Port-au-Prince, volunteers reside at our comfortable, secure visitor facility; when on the road, appropriate accommodations are pre-arranged.
