|Name : Noel Frantz
Position : Full time Logistics Coordinator Healing Hands for Haiti
Tell us about your family: There are five people in my family: my wife, Marie-Carmelle Frantz (nee Dabady); my 8-year-old daughter, Francesca-Noel; my two nieces, Claudia and Géraldyne; and myself, Noel.
Describe your experience of the earthquake: On Tuesday January 12, 2010, I had left Healing Hands around 4:30 to go take care of an administrative task at Port-au-Prince City Hall.
At approximately 5:25, as I was making my way home, the earthquake hit. When I arrived home, I saw emptiness where the house used to be; it was completely destroyed. There was no one in the yard, so I was mad with worry.
Afterwards, they told me they had taken my daughter to the market. At that point I was beside myself. When I arrived at the market, I saw my wife and my two nieces, their eyes red. They said nothing.
I learned that our daughter was under the wreckage. Looking for my daughter, I spent 3 days sleeping on the edge of the market, yelling “Francesca!! Francesca!!” I was finally able to find her by digging small holes, with the help of my 10 male friends. We sent her to the central area for medical care and thankfully she is okay.
In the earthquake, I lost my house and everything inside it, but by the grace of God, I didn’t lose anyone.
My sources of hope are now my job with Healing Hands for Haiti and my family.
